In a video published on YouTube on October by the Hollaback.org organization a woman wanders alone around New York for hours. She looks like a woman like any other she does nothing to draw attention to herself and she is plainly dressed in black jeans and a black tshirt.
In front of the woman walks a man with a hidden camera in his backpack. During the day he films all the comments the woman gets from random men on the street. Men who try to get in touch with her Phone Number List or who simply shout a comment at her. The phenomenon is called catcalling and you can see in the video below how women were subjected to more than catcalls in hours. Catcalling is something very very many women experience every single day and although it is probably more widespread abroad it also happens in Denmark.
And despite the fact that many will probably argue that you dont have a sense of humor or are ungrateful when you dont accept a compliment nicely its actually often not very nice. And there IS a difference between a sweet compliment and someone who gets mad that you dont want to talk to them when they have now shouted that you are SEXYYYY and asked them home. You go into your own thoughts and suddenly someone shouts something or other that is somehow sexual in nature and expects you to reward them with a smile.
